Information About Bael

Bael (Ba’al, Baal, Hadad) is a demon with a rich history that can be traced to various mythologies and religious beliefs. In the Lesser Key of Solomon, Bael is depicted as a king ruling in the East who can make you invisible. He commands 66 legions of spirits. He appears in different forms or combinations of forms, including a cat, a toad, and a man, and speaks hoarsely. One must wear his sigil as a Lamen before summoning him.

The term ‘Baal’ is an honorific title that means ‘owner’ or ‘lord’ in Northwest Semitic languages, which were spoken in the Levant during ancient times. When associated with a demon, ‘Baal’ is likely referring to one of the gods worshipped in the region where the Bible was written. However, it can also be a generic term for any god, making it difficult to determine which specific deity is referred to in various texts.

According to the demonology texts of Johann Weyer and Collin de Plancy, Bael is the head of the infernal powers and the first king of hell with estates in the East. He has three heads, speaks in a raucous but well-formed voice, and commands 66 legions. He is said to teach the art of invisibility.

In mythology, Baal is associated with fertility and earthquakes in Armenian mythology and the fertility of the fields, rainstorms, and thunder in Canaan mythology. Given the amount of fighting Baal does in his myths, it could be inferred that war is also a part of his area of expertise.
