Affiliate disclosure

Version 1.0 · Effective 1 November 2026

Some links on this site are affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. If you click one of these links and buy something on Amazon, Amazon may pay me a small commission. The price you pay stays the same.

  • Recommended reading boxes at the end of some articles, topic pages and free School courses. Each box has at most three books.
  • A few links inside the text, for example when I name a book or the deck my card pages use.
  • The Buy on Amazon buttons on my book pages.
  • My Amazon picks page and my Amazon storefront. The picks page has four lists of popular books (witchcraft, tarot, the Goetia and ceremonial magic, art history), the decks I have reviewed, and the books from my pages sorted by topic.

I keep it small: at most about three Amazon links on an article, no pop-ups and no ads. My newsletter, my emails and my printable downloads, such as the Mini-Grimoire, contain no affiliate links.

How they are marked

Every page with an Amazon affiliate link shows a short notice above the first one, so you know before you click. Each Amazon link is labelled “(paid link)” and opens Amazon in a new tab. The links are also marked as sponsored in the page code, as search engines ask. The sentence “As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.” is at the bottom of every page. A link without these marks is an ordinary link, and I earn nothing from it.

How I choose what to recommend

I recommend books that help a beginner understand a topic I write about: mostly history and reference books by historians and well-known authors, and the classic Rider-Waite-Smith tarot deck that my card meaning pages are written for. A commission never decides what goes on a page, and I only call something a favourite or say I use it when that is true.

The four lists of popular books are built from public charts and shelves: Amazon Best Sellers categories and Goodreads shelves, checked on the date given on the page. Each book shows where its place on the list comes from. Where a book is there because historians and students rely on it rather than because of sales, I say that instead. Being popular is not the same as being accurate, so I add history books to each list for balance.

The decks section lists decks I have reviewed or am reviewing on my Substack. When a review is out, the deck links to it. If a publisher or creator gave me a deck for review, I say so in that review. A deck whose Amazon listing shows nudity gets no Amazon link from me, unless it is the original 1909 Smith and Waite art.

I do not show prices or star ratings, because they change on Amazon and you should check them there. Older books reflect the time they were written in, so read them with that in mind. No recommendation replaces your own judgment, and nothing here is medical, legal or financial advice.

My own books and shop

My own books are sold on Amazon, and the Buy on Amazon links on my book pages are affiliate links too, so I may earn both the author royalty and the Associate commission. My readings are in my Etsy shop, which is my own shop, not an affiliate link. I say so on the pages where these products appear.

What happens when you click

An affiliate link is an ordinary link to amazon.com with my Associate ID in the address. When you click it you leave this site, and Amazon may use its own cookies on amazon.com to credit a qualifying purchase to me. This site sets no cookie for that and sends Amazon no personal data. If you accepted analytics, I count the click in Google Analytics. My privacy policy explains this.

Amazon and the Amazon logo are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates. This site is not run or endorsed by Amazon.

Why I tell you this

Clear disclosure is required by consumer law: by the US Federal Trade Commission’s endorsement guides and, in Finland and the EU, by consumer protection law, which the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority (KKV) enforces. It is also a condition of the Amazon Associates Program. More importantly, you deserve to know when I might earn money from a link.

Google Analytics 4 counts visits and popular pages. Google signals and ad features are off.

Not used today. If I ever add ads or marketing pixels, they would only run with this switched on, and I would ask you again.
