New job spell for beginners

A new job spell supports an active job search. It cannot send applications for you or decide what an employer does, but it can keep the goal in sight on the days when rejection makes it hard to keep going. This charm is meant to sit on your desk while you do the real work.

Before you start. Spells on this site work on you: your attention, your habits and your courage. They never bind, harm or decide for another person, and they do not replace practical help. Pair this spell with one ordinary action, and the action becomes the spell’s other half.

Purpose

To support an active job search with focus and persistence.

Modern Job magic works best as a companion to concrete steps: a list of places to apply, a weekly number of applications, a friend who reads your cover letter. The charm is the reminder; the steps are the spell’s other half.

Best timing (optional). A new or waxing moon, Thursday (Jupiter) or Sunday (Sun). Timing is a modern correspondence, not a rule. The right time is the time you will actually do it.

You need

  • A green or gold candle in a holder, or an LED
  • A small bag or envelope
  • A bay leaf, a coin, and a slip of paper with the kind of job you want written on it

Steps

This is my version of a job search charm.

  1. Before the spell, update your résumé or CV and list five jobs to apply for.
  2. Light the candle.
  3. Hold the bay leaf and say: “For success.” Hold the coin and say: “For fair pay.” Hold the slip and read it aloud.
  4. Put all three in the bag or envelope.
  5. Speak the words.
  6. Send at least one application the same day.

Words (modern). “I seek work that suits my skills and pays me fairly. I send my applications out like seeds. Let the right door open.”

Closing. Extinguish the candle. Keep the bag on your desk while you search, and touch it each time you apply.

Aftercare

Keep the charm where you work on applications. Each time you send one, touch the charm and say the words once. When you get the job, thank the charm and bury or compost any plant parts, or keep it as a memento of a hard season you got through.

Record. How many applications did I send this week? Any responses? If you keep a Book of Shadows, write the date, what you did and what happened next. After a few weeks, your own notes will tell you more than any list of correspondences.

Safety

Standard candle safety. Watch for job scams that ask for money up front.

Be careful of job scams, especially offers that ask you to pay up front, buy equipment or share bank details before you have a contract. No real employer needs a fee to hire you.

Variations

No-tools version

Send one application and say the words as you click “submit.”

A bay leaf for the interview

To carry calm confidence into a job interview. Bay laurel was the plant of victory in ancient Greece and Rome; winners wore laurel crowns. Many modern witches use bay for success.

You need.

  • A dried bay leaf
  • A pen
  1. On the bay leaf, write one word that sums up how you want to come across: “calm,” “capable,” “warm,” or “clear.”
  2. Hold it and speak the words.
  3. Practice your answers to three common interview questions aloud.
  4. Put the leaf in your pocket, wallet, or bag. Choose clothes the night before, and plan your route with time to spare.

Words (modern). “I bring my best self into the room. I speak clearly and listen well. Whatever the outcome, I will have shown who I am.”

Closing. After the interview, thank the leaf and compost it.

Safety. Bay leaves are safe to carry. Do not eat whole bay leaves; they are a choking hazard.

Adapting this spell

  • Low energy days. The no-tools version is the spell. Saying the words once, lying down, counts.
  • Chronic illness and disability. Change any step that does not fit your body. Standing can become sitting, a walk can become looking out of a window, and a flame can become an LED. You are the expert on what your body needs.
  • Shared homes. Most of these steps can be done silently with ordinary objects, and nobody needs to know they are a spell. The practicing privately page has more ideas.
  • Teenagers. Ask a parent or carer before using flame, herbs, teas or baths, and let them check the ingredients.
  • Working with a friend. Do the spell side by side, then check in with each other each week. Each person makes their own intention; neither casts on the other.

Keep a short note of how each change worked. Over time, your own version will become more useful to you than the one written here.
